This project has been a challenge and very rewarding at the same time. We are currently completing the remodel of the basement area of this building. We remodeled the conference room and library of the third floor last year. We will soon begin on the mezanine level.
One of the challenges in providing lighting design for 100 year old buildings is how do you incorporate today's technology with a structure that old?
We were able to accomplish this in two instances for the basement level:
We replaced 150 W incandescent lamps with 12W
LED lamps. We were able to use existing housings, which made installation much easier...
By making this change we were able to decrease the amount of energy usage over 90% and eliminate maintenance almost completely.
The other challenge was to bring in more light to the space with very limited plenum space and low ceiling heights. The fixture selected enabled us to brighten up the space with direct / indirect lighting with a low profile drop basket.

The housing was also very shallow which allowed the electrician to install it in a very tight plenum space.

Like I mentioned earlier, remodels can
be a challenge. It is very rewarding when you meet those challenges!
